Position Title: Credit Manager, Corporate, SME  Projects

Reporting To Head of Credit

Job Purpose

To implement strategy, policies and procedures that promotes an efficient and effective risk and controls environment and protect the credit portfolio.
To provide MIS for analysis, measurement, sanctioning, reporting and monitoring of risk.

Key Responsibilities

Reviewing existing Corporate, SME, and Project Finance Policies/Procedures/Templates/Models and Programs to ensure they are consistent agreed credit standards and regulatory prudential guidelines.
Ensuring a consisted approach in assessing Corporate, SME, Project Finance limits by developing and reviewing relevant risk assessment documents for use by the business.
Evaluate  understand risk associated with individual transactions, products, securities, and the borrowers as well as the economies  industries they operate within.
Embed credit risk management practices by ensuring adherence to risk management initiatives in line with credit policy and standards.
Mon
itor legal and regulatory developments that impact risk and lending policies and ensure Credit compliance with local legal and regulatory requirements.
Review and support of all Corporate, SME and Project Finance underwriting documents including loan products documents, proposals before onward transmission to designated authorities for approval.
Assess/Analyze credit proposals and applications from Corporate, SME, Project Finance and submit for approvals as per credit policy.
Approval/support of all Corporate, SME and Projects credits application falling within delegation authority and support of those falling outside delegated authority while at the same time meeting set TAT standards.
Ensure that all credit proposals and applications submitted comply with credit policy/CBK prudential guidelines and where there are breaches of policy/CBK prudential guidelines, these have been identified, mitigated and approval obtained at the appropriate levels.
Integration of Corporate, SME and Project Finance Credit Policy/Standards with business strategy/plans and ensuring appropriate credit culture/training and adherence the Bank’s Credit Policy/standards. Ensure appropriate dispensations are sought on time.
Monitoring and reporting of credit portfolio trends and credit performance; while ensuring quality loan book performance.
Manage and Monitor Corporate, SME, Project Finance collection process ensuring that the flow rates within the delinquency buckets are well managed and overall portfolio performance and provisions are within the prescribed levels.
Interrogate the Provisions listing on monthly basis to ensure these figures are within budgeted levels.
Obtain appropriate  timely MIS on excesses  loans in arrears for purposes of pro-actively managing those exposures with minimal loss to the bank.
Provide leadership to a team of credit analysts and related front line staff.

Competency Requirements

Technical and Personal Skills
Ability to translate the bank’s credit strategy into departmental business plans and operationalize the same through a focused performance management regime.
Knowledge of all lending products (both local and international) and the level of complexity inherent in those products.
Ability to evaluate position of solvency of a business and prudent decisions against credit application. Ability to understand and develop financial models for long term debt.
Ability to develop relevant credit policies and evaluate project proposals.
Ability to present, communicate and effect essential changes to improve credit management in the Bank in line with emerging micro and macro financial developments.
Proven leadership and people management skills with a high level of commitment and enthusiasm.
Good communication, negotiation and presentation skills
Proactive team player with drive for results
Must be familiar with legislation relating to lending practices.
Computer Skills: Computer literate with proficiency in oracle based core banking system.

Knowledge, Experience and Qualification Requirements


University degree or equivalent preferably in finance related field from a recognized institution and relevant professional qualifications in banking, Risk Management, Credit Management or accounting.
Experience, awareness and appreciation of all aspects of financial analysis in a busy and dynamic financial institution.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in Credit Risk Management, 3 being at a senior level, and exposure to modern risk management and portfolio management tools.
Knowledge of project finance, banking products and New and Evolving Technology systems.
Those with project management skills will have added advantage.
