Norfund, the Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries is owned by the Norwegian Government and serves as an instrument in Norwegian development policy. 

We invest in commercial enterprises in developing countries and our aim is to thereby contribute to economic growth and poverty reduction. We always invest with partners, Norwegian or foreign, focusing on renewable energy, agribusiness and financial institutions. 


The regional office in Nairobi covers Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan. In 2012, we had a portfolio of about US$1.4 billion and about 55 employees worldwide.

We are looking for experienced Investment Managers to source, structure, negotiate, manage and exit deals that contribute to the maximisation of returns and secure high developmental impact. 

In particular, you will have the following responsibilities:
  • Establish deal flow and develop business contacts
  • Manage deal progress from inception to exit, against agreed timelines and in conjunction with the Senior Investment Manager, as a project manager or as a team member. This will entail:
  • Evaluating  investment proposals from potential clients for preliminary discussion with the your supervisor to decide whether to take forward to the Investment Committee (IC)
  • Preparing and presenting papers to the IC/Board
  • Analysing companies from a financial, operational, and industry perspective and create valuation models to support transactions, including DCF models and comparables
  • Executing field work to support the due diligence processes
  • Managing the commitment and disbursement procedures
  • Maintaining up to date information in archives and portfolio management systems;
  • Managing the performance of investments monitoring investments, including the required reporting (valuations etc.)
  • Managing compliance with ESG covenants and to increase awareness of the issues with a view to helping clients reach international standards.
Requirements 

These positions will suit self-driven professionals who value development for impact in emerging economies.  

You will have:
  • A masters level degree  in economics, finance, accounting or a related field; professional qualifications related to financing and Private Equity and/or Venture  Capital  investments will be a definite advantage
  • 4 - 8 years relevant business experience in finance,  private equity and/or venture capital organisation
  • Experience of working in the East Africa region will be an advantage
  • Fluency in English and a good understanding of Swahili
  • Computer literacy with experience of Microsoft Office Suite and, in particular, financial modelling in Excel.
  • You will be expected to carry out your duties according to Norfund’s Code of Conduct
