Chemonics International, jobs

Chemonics International, a global consulting and international development firm, is seeking professionals for the anticipated five-year USAID-funded Power Africa Transactions and Reforms Program (PATRP). 

The project aims to support energy infrastructure transactions, increase private investment in small scale clean energy projects, and strengthen energy related regulatory and policy frameworks across Africa. 


All long-term positions listed below will be based in Nairobi, Kenya, unless otherwise noted. Fluency in English and Swahili is required.


Transaction Advisor (positions in Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania)
  • Degree in energy-related engineering, policy, business, finance, economics or a related field
  • Minimum 5-8 years experience in developing and managing power sector transactions
  • Experience coordinating with international implementers, stakeholders, and donors (preferably USAID)
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing private-sector driven, high-impact energy projects 
Small Scale Renewable Project Development (SSRPD) Advisor
  • Bachelor’s degree in energy-related engineering, policy, business, finance, economics or a related field, advance degree is preferred
  • Minimum 10 years experience in power sector, working on small scale renewable energy projects
  • Experience mentoring small scale energy projects, helping to develop their business plans, investment pitches, growth strategies and facilitating linkages with investors and financers
  • Experience with international donors (preferably USAID)
Senior Transaction Advisor
  • Degree in energy-related engineering, policy, business, finance, economics or a related field
  • Minimum 10 years demonstrated experience in power sector
  • Extensive experience in issues related to power sector reforms and transactions
  • Experience with international donors (preferably USAID) and government officials
Senior Operations/Finance Manager
  • Degree in project management, accounting, finance, human resources, business, or relevant field
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience and success in managing all administrative, logistical, and financial aspects of a program
  • Demonstrated knowledge of USAID operational, financial and management systems, regulations and reporting requirements
  •  Experience in efficient programmatic and logistical operations management on USAID projects
Grants/Subcontracts/Procurement Manager
  • Degree in business administration, finance, economics, or closely related field
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience in setting up and managing grants under contracts
  • Demonstrated knowledge of USAID financial and management systems, regulations and reporting requirements
  • Experience in efficient programmatic and logistical operations management on USAID projects
